About the album

This month the internationally renowned ensemble Camerata Trajectina celebrates its 25th anniversary and they are still going strong. A unique event in today's circle of specialised ensembles. To celebrate this and also to meet with the many demands for more albums of this ensemble, we have now recorded with them songs from the famous Maastricht Songbook from 1554. This Songbook contains compositions by a great many 16th century composers from the Low Countries and the music is of a surprising high quality with three, four, six and even eight part compositions.

Het internationaal vermaarde ensemble Camerata Trajectina viert zijn 25e verjaardag met dit album met liederen uit het beroemde Maastrichts Liedboek uit 1554. Dit liedboek bevat composities van een groot aantal 16e-eeuwse componisten uit de Lage Landen. De muziek voor drie tot acht stemmen is van een verrassend hoge kwaliteit.

De werken uit het Maastrichts Liedboek werden niet meer uitgevoerd, omdat uitgerekend de sopraanpartij van de liederen in de loop van de tijd is zoekgeraakt. Maar Camerata Trajectina heeft zich tot het uiterste ingespand om de liederen te reconstrueren.

It is impossible to imagine Dutch musical life without Camerata Trajectina. The early music ensemble has made a name for itself by pleading for Dutch music from the 16th en 17th century, in particular songs, and aims to bring this music back to life, in a playful and scientifically justified way. Camerata Trajectina comprises a nucleus of musicians, to which musicians and ensembles can be added. The group’s programmes deal chiefly with social events, such as exhibitions and commemorations of events and individuals from Dutch history. The group took part in almost all editions of the Utrecht Early Music Festival, gave hundreds of concerts in the Nederlands and Flanders and toured to amongst others the United States, Canada, Ghana and Indonesia.
